Trigger Point Work
Trigger points are small micro knots in the muscle fibers comprised of muscle tissue and myofascial tissue adhesions. These trigger points form from many different circumstances like repetitive movements, blunt force trauma and post surgery scarring. Trigger points can create "dislocated" pain making it challenging to understand where the pain is originating from.
Trigger points can be "undone" providing relief from chronic pain. Myofascial techniques paired with trigger point work, assisted stretching and recommended daily stretching can make all the difference in each individual's personal care and progress.
We use thumbs, fingertips and knuckles to help us treat trigger points with direct pressure. Sometimes this pressure will create pain that dissipates once the adhesion is released.
Trigger point work is typically incorporated into our therapeutic bodywork as a supporting modality.
